Pediatrics was established in 1978 by Dr Wang Guilin, with pediatric wards and outpatient clinics. The original location was on the second floor of Xingyuan Catholic Church in Zhangdian District. The initial number of beds is 10, and the number has been increased to 179 by 2022. The department has been developing and growing under the unremitting efforts of Mrs. Liu Ying, Mrs. Wang Yanmei and Mrs. Chen Liping. At present, the department has 152 staff, including 50 physicians and 102 nurses. There are 7 chief physicians, 8 deputy chief physicians and 28 attending physicians; There are 1 doctoral student, 20 postgraduate students and 1 doctoral candidate.
At present, the department has eight sub-specialties in pediatrics area, including critical, respiratory, neurological, cardiovascular, hematology, renal and endocrinology, digestive, integrated Chinese and Western medicine. In 2004, the first pediatric congenital heart disease interventional treatment in Zibo was carried out, filling the gap in cardiac intervention in Zibo. In 2006, the city took the lead in establishing a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) to undertake critical care in Zibo. In 2008, we became a designated hospital for hand, foot and mouth disease in Zibo, undertaking the treatment of hand, foot and mouth disease in the city. The milk powder incident in 2008, more than 3400 children with kidney stones were successfully diagnosed and treated. Pediatric fiber electronic bronchoscopy lavage therapy, bedside bronchoscopy for critical care was carried out firstly in Zibo. In 2015, the first bedside continuous blood purification technology for children was used in Zibo. Painless gastroscopy in children was performed in 2016. The Pediatric Neuroelectrophysiology Room was established to carry out video EEG examination in 2017. In 2019, the first pediatric endoscopic guided jejunal catheterization was completed in Zibo. The Children's Asthma Allergic Reaction Diagnosis and Treatment Center was established in 2022.
