The Department of Obstetrics was established in May 1975 on the basis of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and was separated from the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in May 1992. After decades of accumulation and inheritance, through the efforts of Wang Huaqin, Li Wei, Zhuang, Yu Feng, Yu Yingchun, the department of obstetrics has realized the leap from standardization to modernization, and has a certain position in the domestic obstetrics field. From dozens of beds at the beginning, the department now has 183 open beds, from the original physiological obstetrics and pathology obstetrics to the present 8 functional wards. The ward and outpatient occupancy area of 21,500 m2. The annual number of outpatient visits is more than 100,000. The number of births is 7000-10000, more than 70 percent of them are high-risk pregnancies. The Department of Obstetrics has gradually formed a relatively complete perinatal medical health care system, and built a complete professional framework for the treatment of critically ill obstetric saving, perinatal nutrition and metabolism, diagnosis and treatment of placenta-originated diseases, prevention and treatment of premature birth, fetal medicine, postpartum rehabilitation and other disciplines.
The number of medical staff in the department has increased from more than 30 at the beginning to 227 now, including 65 medicals, 39 midwives and 123 nurses. The Obstetrics took the lead in carrying out the pregnancy nutrition clinic and gestational diabetes one-day clinic in the city, realizing the integrated management of gestational diabetes outpatient clinic and ward. It is committed to reducing the rate of cesarean section and improving the quality of vaginal delivery. The cesarean section in obstetrics department has taken the lead in reducing below 40% in the city, and the perineal lateral resection rate to below 10%. The department has carried out new technologies such as Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC) and External Cephalic Version (ECV) earlier in the province to actively promote natural childbirth. In recent years, the department has carried out new technologies such as painless labor, Doula childbirth, free birth, balloon induction of labor, emergency cervical cerclage and disposable vacuum extraction. It is the first time in China to propose and carry out cut-off suture for the treatment of dangerous placenta previa, which greatly reduces the occurrence of severe postpartum hemorrhage.
